Located in the Western Cape Province, Brackenfell is a suburb on the southern side. The City of Cape Town Municipality provides the local government services. There are a lot of properties situated in Brackenfell.
At one stage, it was a quarry site and then developed into the Bracken Nature Reserve after the Cape Town City Council and the Stellenbosch Divisional Council negotiated. It is situated in the Ruwari suburban area.

When the "de Clampmuts" was a refreshment post, Brackenfell witnessed its earliest activities. Brackenfell was a part of Klapmutsberg which was better known as de Bottlelarji. The area which was referred to as "Kruispad" was transferred to Selie J was in the ownership of Brink A. In 1901, he entered into a deal and sold it to G. H. Walton, a Scottish Immigrant. Actually, he was reminded on the flora he had seen in Scotland. He was the one who called Brackenfell because Bracken meant fern and Fell meant hill. As it has a lot valuable granite, the farm eventually got sold to a brick company in 1903 and that's how the granite quarry came into being. In early days, Brackenfell was a major road crossing but not its any other suburb in the Western Cape Province. In a subtle way, there is something called "boerwors curtain". It is an indigenous terms of an invisible curtain that separates people who speak English and Afrikaans in Cape Town.
Brackenfell has the advantage of its location. You can easily get away to the winelands or explore Cape Town. There are a lot of rural winelands if you are interested.There are nine estates which are situated close by on the Durbanville wine route. Go a little further and you will find a wine making tradition that goes back centuries. The oldest wine route represents 300 wineries. Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek and Pneil are all nearby. This is the part which is best suited for you if you are a nature lover. There are mountains that richly adorn the background.
In all, if you are new to Brackenfell, important landmarks for you to keep in mind are Durbanville Wine Estate, Durbanville Wine Route, Kuilsrivier Golf Course, Stellenbosch Wine Route and Bracken Nature Reserve. CapeGate Shopping Centre, Glengarry Shopping Centre, and Candle Factory Shop etc. are good places to shop. If you are wondering where you can get good food, try out Panarottis Cape Gate, Mugg & Bean Cape Gate, and Nando's Brackenfell etc.
In terms of educational facilities, Curro Brackenfell Independent School, Hoërskool Brackenfell High School, Curro Castle Nursery Brackenfell, and Paarl School provide quality education. There are no universities in this area. You can explore University of the Western Cape and Cape Peninsula University of Technology situated near by.
