Bloubergstrand is basically a residential area but is also known as a tourist destination. It attracts a number of tourists every year. Bloubergstrand's beach is a well known location for its fascinating view of Table Mountain. It is also a great kitesurf destination. The famous Robben Island is merely 6.9 km west of the coast of Blouberstrand.In documented history, Goringhaikonas were the first community to live in Bloubergstrand. Harry die Strandloper was the leader of the community. Ons Huisie, translated as Our Small Home has a significant history in the development of Bloubergstrand. It was the place of stay for Frederick Louis Stradler. After the Battle of Blouberg in 1806, he owned all the farm land now known as Bloubergstrand.
Blouberstrand continue to honour its local traditions. Fisherment from Bloubegrstrand still use a rowing boat that follows a local design. They also follow the traditional way of cooking. The mullet that they cook has a number of bones and needs to be digested well. They use freshly baked bread or pap from maize and tradition jam with it. Braaibrood is another local delicacy. Blouberg Braaibrood is basically two slices of white, whole wheat or brown bread. On the inside, it is barbecued with onion, a chutney, tomato and cheese. Names of the streets continue to follow the names of well known people like General Sir David Baird, General Jansens, Commodore Sir Popham, General Ferguson etc.
Blouberstrand has a beautiful white sand beach on the Atlantic Ocean. There are a few rocky outcrops where black mussels can be spotted. The kitesurfers and windsurfers simply love the beach. Big Bay, on the west side of Blouberstrand is also quite popular. Read More
