Under Professor Grabe's direction, Dr. Wessels served as a Consultant at UP's Orthopaedics Department's Foot and Ankle Surgery from 2006 to 2008. He transitioned to a full-time private practise in 2008 and, starting in 2010, focused solely on foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Wessels has participated in numerous international congresses while he has been in private practice, and he has even given presentations at some of them. He belongs to the South African Association of Foot and Ankle Surgeons as well as the South African Orthopaedic Association. Soft tissue injuries to the foot and ankle are something that Dr. Wessels is particularly interested in.
