I volunteered as a lay counsellor at the Amanzimtoti Trauma Room in 1999–2000 and the Durban Lesbian and Gay Community and Health Centre in 2001 while pursuing my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of South Africa.

During my time at OUT, I oversaw extensive HIV prevention programmes aimed at sexual minorities and coordinated clinic and counselling services as well as other health and wellbeing services.
I quit OUT in 2012 to work as the Key Populations Program Manager at ICAP.
In this role, I was in charge of overseeing the implementation of health programmes in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and Northern Cape.
During this time, I finished my doctoral studies in philosophy (in Psychology).
