After crossing oceans, he pursued his interest in surgical ophthalmology, which was sparked by his uncle Dr. Hubrecht Brody, a leading figure in that field in Cape Town. He held a number of ophthalmic positions in the public sector, including a registrar position at University College Hospital in Galway, Ireland, and Frere Hospital East London, in order to finish his studies. He earned the Dr. Geoff Howes medal in 2001 for successfully completing the DIP OPHTH(SA) at the time. At Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, he eventually finished his specialist training, and in 2007 he was inducted as a fellow of the College of Ophthalmology of South Africa (FC OPHTH (SA)). Dr. Kidson joined Dr. Bingham's Upington-based private practise in 2008. Dr. Kidson specialises in general ophthalmology, glaucoma, cataract and refractive surgery, diabetes, and glaucoma.
