They were raised with a strong appreciation for books and reading because their father was a well-known author and publisher. Since then, the company has expanded into a thriving family business run by wonderful people who share a passion for books and are committed to promoting reading and making books available and affordable to everyone.

Van Schaik has prioritised leading within the book sector from the start, a decision that was recognised in 1960 when he was awarded a medal of honour by the SA Academy for his contribution to the growth of the book industry in South Africa.
