Randburg is situated in the north-west of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Although it was an independent municipality earlier, it was merged with the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality like Sandton and Roodepoort in the late 1990s. During the interim time period of 1996-2000, it was a part of the Northern Metropolitan Local Council (MLC).

Randburg was established as a town in 1959. It was a consortium of 32 suburbs. While it was economically aligned with Johannesburg, the people living there decided to create their separate town council. The name Randburg was a result of a competition and is evidently based on the South African Rand Currency. Incidentally, the currency was introduced at the same time the new municipality came into being in 1959. The residents of Randburg are wealthier than their counterparts in Johannesburg.
In terms of economy, Randburg has head offices of Multichoice and its associated companies M-Net and SuperSport. Hence, it is connected to the rest of the country and the world. While it had lapsed economically in the 1990s, the Johannesburg municipality had taken measures to revitalize the economy. Randburg is home to Strijdom Park. It is a fairly well developed commercial/light industrial area. It is sort of between the N1 Western Bypass and Mailbongwe Drive. The Park contains significant auto sales and repair industry. It also has some other small industries that cater to the northern parts of Johannesburg.

Randburg has a host of shopping malls and entertainment centres. There are malls like Northgate Mall, Brightwater Commons, Randburg Square etc. for your shopping needs. The Fairway Hotel and Span, Randburg Inn & Towers Hotel, and Hotel Apollo etc. are located in Randburg.
Education

If you are moving to Randburg, it is a good place for your kids' educational needs because it has many reputed educational institutions in its close proximity. Damelin Randburg, Boston City Campus, AAA School of Advertising, Vega School of Brand Leadership, Aurora Private School, King's School etc. are some of the well-known institutions.

Oliverdale Clinic, Medi-Cross Clinic, Randburg Clinic etc. provide quality healthcare facilities.

Rabdburg has a wide range of restaurants offering a diversity of cuisines. A big cinema complex, a laster-paintball arena and a mini golf course make it a complete entertainment package.
